What to Eat With What you Drink!


Here’s a quick pairing list I have been compiling for some time. The purpose is to demystify wine and food pairings. Light meat light wines, dark meats darker full bodied wines is how it basically goes… It is really not that hard and once you get the hang of it, you’ll love cooking delicious and fun foods and pairing them with wines. This is not a ridgid guideline as chefs are getting more creative with different fusion cuisines and I feel it is a very personal choice. For example, in Italy, pairing red wine with artichoke is a common thing but I feel artichoke is a red wine “killer” and because of the artichoke’s iron content, I would say it oxidizes the wine in your mouth. Also don’t be afraid to serve a “wine flight” (white as a starter and then red) depending if you start off with a salad and then move on to beef. As you can see I also mention cheeses for aperitivos or to mix with appetizers or entrees. Herbs can be a bit challenging because they can overpower wines so here it is…
